Most times when a song feels ready to record (and hopefully you've had some production input), it is. But it may not be the last recording. Most artists will make a demo recording first. And this is the domain of small-scale/mobile recording engineers (such as myself).
There are two options - your place or mine,
including me bringing a 16 track mobile setup.
Mixing
Mixing is taking your raw performance and crafting it into a well balanced, punchy and exciting rendition of your song.
In today’s digital era, you may want or need to create
different mixes as well – one for streaming/broadcast, but also versions for
licensing in movies/television/video games.
Mastering
& Remastering
If mixing is about balancing the raw performance,
mastering is making that mixed song hold up in power and volume against
everything else on YouTube, Spotify, etc.
